Two seemingly random attacks in New York City and Philadelphia last week could be connected to a single person, authorities said Friday. Two separate shooting incidents in New York, left, and Philadelphia appear to be linked by a similar looking suspect. Investigators believe the shooter arrived by car and then walked up to the victim to carry out the attack with a single shot before fleeing, according to NBC Philadelphia. In the Philadelphia attack, rewards for information leading to an arrest and conviction amounted to $20,000.

Residents of the country's fourth-largest city were told to boil water Sunday after pump-driven water system pressure dropped because of an electrical outage, triggering concerns of possible contamination. "We believe the water is safe but based on regulatory requirements when pressure drops below 20 psi we are obligated to issue a boil water notice," Turner said. A power outage Sunday at the East Water Purification Plant caused pressure to drop below 20 psi, or pounds per square inch, the state threshold that triggers boil water notices, Houston Public Works said. Water system pressure can use the weight of liquid to occupy cracks and crevices that might otherwise be exposed to outside incursions, such as urban runoff. "Houston’s water system is different than other systems in that we don’t use water towers to provide pressure to the system," it tweeted.

A small airplane with two people on board was dangling an estimated 100 feet above ground Sunday night after the aircraft struck a tower supporting high-voltage power lines. The two were not injured and were communicating with first responders as they awaited rescue, Maryland State Police said in a statement. One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting adjacent to a popular Atlanta shopping destination Saturday night, police said. The deceased person was found at the scene, he said, and the injured were taken to medical facilities. A witness told Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA that as many as 30 rounds could be heard. The shooting took place on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year at one of the Atlanta area’s most popular malls. Exit lanes from the adjacent Interstate 85 freeway were reopened late Saturday after they were closed to accommodate investigators.

A man who went overboard during a holiday cruise in the Gulf of Mexico was rescued after several hours in the water off New Orleans, authorities said Friday. He was rescued about 20 miles south of Louisiana's Southwest Pass, where the Mississippi River meets the coast, U.S. Coast Guard officials said. "It makes it more miraculous that we were able to find him conscious and treading water," Graves said. Coast Guard rescue crews pulled the man to safety six hours after receiving a 2:30 p.m. Thursday report of a passenger overboard, Graves said. The water was warm, he said, but the the trio was beset by signs of hypothermia when they were rescued by Coast Guard crews Oct. 9.

A hiker was found dead on a Zion National Park trail in Utah this week after her husband went to get help amid freezing temperatures, park officials said Thursday. On Wednesday morning, members of the Zion National Park Search and Rescue Team found the woman near the Virgin River, the service said. Fellow hikers had attempted CPR, the National Park Service said in the statement. "The man reported they became dangerously cold overnight and experienced symptoms consistent with hypothermia," the National Park Service said in the statement. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Utah medical examiner, and the park service were investigating the death, park officials said.

A Utah man accused of holding a straight-edge razor near another passenger's throat on a New York City-to-Salt Lake City flight has been charged with assault, authorities said. He was charged Tuesday with assault with a dangerous weapon on or near aircraft and carrying a weapon on a flight, prosecutors with the U.S. Justice Department’s District of Utah office said. Officials say he boarded a flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport with a concealed straight-edge razor marketed to barbers. The woman said he held the razor near her throat as he told her to pause the movie, according to prosecutors. "He was going to get help because he knew something was really off," the woman told NBC affiliate KSL, who withheld her name.

A human skull was found near Interstate 5 in northern Oregon, authorities said Wednesday. The discovery Monday morning was reported by members of an Oregon Department of Corrections cleanup crew, Oregon State Police said in a statement. The find, near Keizer, a northern suburb of Salem, was initially reported as a suspicious object. State police, which took the item for investigation, described it as a skull inside a "small" backpack. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office will try to determine the identity of the remains, they said.

Two armed men arrested in connection with online threats against New York City's Jewish community had a Manhattan synagogue in their sights, a prosecutor said Sunday. The two had traveled to Pennsylvania late last week to purchase a gun, prosecutors said in the charging documents. "I changed my mind because I was nervous about the police and didn't want the gun anymore," Brown is quoted as saying. Mahrer ultimately purchased the weapon from the man who drove them out of state, Brown said, according to prosecutors. Earlier in the week, Brown is also alleged to have tweeted, "Big moves being made on Friday."

Police in Idaho dismissed rumors and ruled out multiple people who had contact with victims the night of a quadruple homicide, leaving witnesses and video as a main hope. On Sunday, chief of Moscow police James Fry asked the public for help solving the vicious stabbing deaths of four people just outside the University of Idaho campus Nov. 13. Police don't believe a person who was dialed seven times from the cellphone of Goncalves after she arrived home is involved in the attack, Fry said. The two roommates who were at home during the attack most likely slept through it, police indicated Saturday. "The identity of the 911 caller and the contents of the call have not been released," Fry said Sunday.

Two men with access to weapons were arrested at New York City's Penn Station early Saturday in connection with a probe of threats to the Jewish community, authorities said. The senior law enforcement sources said Brown had the swastika armband on him when he was arrested at the train station. NYPD Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell said in a statement that authorities first identified "a developing threat to the Jewish community" Friday. Three law enforcement sources said threats against the Jewish community were posted online. An apartment unit resident likely caused an explosion and fire that injured 14 people and brought down part of a Maryland apartment building as he took his own life, authorities said Friday. His manner of death was suicide, police Chief Marcus G. Jones said at a news conference Friday. “He made statements that were indicative of intentions of suicide,” Jones said, basing the finding on witnesses who knew the resident. During a news conference Thursday, County Fire Chief Scott E. Goldstein called his unit “our apartment of focus,” but he did not say why. The rapper Blueface was arrested Tuesday in Las Vegas on suspicion of attempted murder, police said. Blueface, 25, whose real name is Johnathan Porter, is suspected in an Oct. 8 shooting, police said. Details about the shooting were unavailable, and there was no online record yet Tuesday evening of Porter in the Clark County Detention Center. Blueface was born in Los Angeles and moved around the state as he grew up. He played football for Fayetteville State University in North Carolina before he focused on his music career.

LOS ANGELES — Actor Denise Richards was unharmed after shots were fired in a road rage incident Monday, a representative said. The incident was first reported by TMZ. TMZ reported that police were called after someone at the studio spotted gunshot damage on the Ford Shelby F-150 truck. The Los Angeles Police Department, which has jurisdiction in the area of the studio, said that it had no record of such a report and that no investigation was underway. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, whose deputies crisscross the area because they patrol nearby jurisdictions, including public transportation rail and bus lines, said the same.
